I've said it before, and I will say it again....Scott McGill is a genius. No other guitarist has embodied the spirit and style of Robert Fripp as well as he has. The same sense of adventure permeates his playing. As one third of this progressive/fusion trio, he twists and turns his way thru two discs worth of instrumental bliss. Controlled By Radar is an audio tour de force that highlights not only McGill's playing, but also the brilliant bass work of Michael Manring as well as the percussive stylings of Vic Stevens. Disc one is comprised of the electric heavy jazz compositions but even that description doesn't do it justice. Admittedly, disc two is my favorite due to the use of acoustic instrumentation and the less frenetic pace. Honestly, there's really no adequate description of the music contained on this disc. Are you a follower of Robert Fripp? Do you follow his acid jazz leanings in his Projekt records? Do you enjoy hearing the improvisation of accomplished musicians? Then Controlled By Radar needs to be on your must buy list.
