MC GILL, MANRING, STEVENS – Addition By Subtraction / F.E.S Oh my. Now if this isn’t one of the most complex and technical albums I have ever heard in my own life then what ? These guys are simple giving lessons in technical playing, with arrangements so complex that you might get a headache if you try to follow them ! What’s more, you’ll find plenty of improvisation in the album and several different flavors, with jazz and progressive of course having the leading role. From acoustic guitar to fretless bass and from weird drum rhythms to atmospheric keyboards, everything is included and everything showcases the talent of these guys. Their fingers fly on their instruments and I bet their fingers are twisting in impossible angles to achieve these sounds. The album require all your attention and it’s not one of these albums that you can listen while working or something. No you must be focused to fully appreciate it. Just one advice. Avoid it if you have a headache !
